Week Six Preview

I want to thank you all for joining together to read this great work on a daily basis.  I understand that some of the sections are difficult but I want to encourage you to continue reading through the tedious parts.  If you miss a day or two,  just pick up where we are at and you will be sure to be strengthened in your faith as you continue to grow with us. 

Next week we are going to be reading about the Providence of God.  Here is a short preview. 

MONDAY FEBRUARY 16th

Chapter 15 / Sections 1-3
1. A twofold knowledge of God,  before the fall and after it.
2. The immortality of the soul.

3. The image of God. 

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 17th

Chapter 15 / Sections 4-7
4. The image of God is in the soul. Its nature may be learnt from its renewal by Christ. 
5. The dreams of the Manichees and of Servetus, as to the origin of the soul, refuted. 
6. The doctrine of philosophers as to the faculties of the soul.

7. The division of the faculties of the soul into intellect and will. 

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 18th

Chapter 15 / Sections 8 - Chapter 16 / Section 3
8. Man's free will. This freedom lost by the fall - a fact unknown to philosophers. 

1. Even the wicked, under the guidance of carnal sense, acknowledge that God is the Creator. 

2. Refutation of the Epicureans

3. Consideration of the Omnipotence as combined with the Providence of God. 

THURSDAY FEBURARY 19th

Chapter 16 / Sections 4-8
4. A definition of Providence 
5. Special Providence of God proved by arguments founded on Divine Justice and Mercy.
6. Special Providence proved by passages relating to the human race.

7. Special Providence proved by history of the Israelites, and from daily experience.
8. Erroneous views as to Providence refuted

FRIDAY FEBRYARY 20th 

Chapter 16 / 9 - Chapter 17 /2
9. How things are said to be fortunate for us.  
1. Summary of the doctrine of Divine Providence.

2. Erroneous view that denies that the world is governed by the secret counsel of God.
